Summary of the Article
The article is about spiny crawfish, otherwise known as crawfish. It has been a delicacy in the Bahamas for many years, however, it's profit has slowly dropped. As fuel costs rise, fishermen experience less pay per pound. This lead to decreased fishermen and less crawfish. This article talks about its conservation and ways to maximize its profit.
Thoughts, Emotions, and Observations about the Article
I personally enjoy dining on crawfish. Every single time I visit Houston, Texas, I go to the city market where they sell crawfish. Unfortunately, the price has risen every single year I came there. It was $2.25 per pound in 2006. In 2012, it was about $5 per pound. This article caught my attention because the problems that the fishermen in the Bahamas are facing affect the prices not only in Houston, but also around the world.
How This Relates to Culture
Crawfish fishing can be a tradition that families share for centuries. Also, this food is considered a delicacy. Other places have different delicacies, but crawfish is distinct and unique in the Bahamas, which makes this a cultural trait.
